Italy: union mobilization in a changing IT sector

In October, several strikes hit the Italian IT sector, which is going through a rough patch. IBM is planning to reorganize the group, probably with a drawdown in the south of the country; EDS-HP's workers are still mobilized after the two groups merged; and Engineering opened a mass layoff procedure which will affect 236 employees in the former Atos Origin Italia. HP-EDS. Electronic Data Systems (EDS) has almost 3.000 employees in Italy; unions say 2.000 of them are governed by metalworkers’ national collective agreement.
