The Cgil, Cisl and Uil unions are not satisfied after their first meeting, on January 16, 2008, with the President of the Council, Romano Prodi, about Alitalia's privatization and its possible buyout by Air France-KLM. Union organizations are especially worried about the social consequences of the global restructuring which should follow the company's privatization. (Ref. 080038)
According to the Cgil’s general secretary, Gugliemo Epifani, the meeting with Romano Prodi did not bring any concrete answers. He thinks that the government still has to provide information about fundamental issues which “must be defined and imposed on Air France”, as well as on the industrial plan because, “beyond the thousands of jobs, it is a strategic sector”.
