Italy: wave of strikes in local public transport

After the meeting at the Ministry of Labor failed on November 28, local public transport (LPT) unions confirmed the national 4-hour strike of December 16 to support the renewal of the national collective agreement, which expired in 2007 and whose negotiations are at a dead end.  Unions have already organized 10 national strikes, including 6 24-hour strikes, but they didn’t change anything.  Only the big 5-day drivers’ strike in Genoa gave results, as unions got the mayor to back down on the privatization of the company in charge of local transport.  For their part, independent unions called for a national strike this Friday, December 6, against planned privatizations in the sector.  (Ref.  130763)
