Lafarge: in Indonesia, management and BWI international union federation extend the framework agreement to subcontractors

Joint platform.  This platform, composed of employee and management representatives, will meet once a year to discuss working conditions on the Banda Aceh site.  The BWI says this is a first step toward the future adoption of collective agreements guaranteeing subcontracting workers’ rights.  “Businesses like Lafarge tend to cut direct employment as much as they can, appealing to providers or subcontracting firms, thus letting two level of protection of working conditions grow” explained BWI representatives Marion Hellman.  “It will help extend to the second category of workers, less protected, the commitments the group made in the international framework agreement.”
