Lufthansa: in the name of “anti-discrimination” law, pilots forced to retire at 60 file a complaint against the German airline

It is the first time the new law is invoked in a trial. This time, the discriminating factor is the captain's age. The business world is following the case closely because the ruling could become a precedent at European level. (Ref. 061095)

Three Lufthansa pilots have filed a complaint against their employer before the employment Court of Frankfurt which will give a ruling from next Monday. The pilots put forward the new law on « equal treatment » (AGG – Allgemeine Gleichbehandlunsgesetz) that came into force last August. They demand the right to work until 65 years old whereas the collective agreements signed between Lufthansa and Cockpit, the trade union of pilots, provide for retirement at 60 , notably for safety reasons. « Law
