The individual training leave provision, introduced by the October 24, 2007 law, came into effect on January 1, 2008. This defined as part of the agreement signed by Luxembourg's social partners, enables all the employees in the private sector to get 80 training leave days during their professional career. The individual training leave is not only aimed at employees from the private sector but also at free-lance and self-employed workers, whatever the beneficiary’s age and place of residence. The employees must work somewhere in Luxembourg and have at least 6 months’ seniority in the company when they ask for the leave. The training the employee wants to follow must not be in direct relation with the job performed. It can be done during working hours, evening classes, or during the week end.
