Answering to a parliamentary question, the Luxembourg Labour and Employment secretary, François Biltgen, specified how to deal with May 1, 2008. Indeed, next year, this holiday is the same day as another holiday: Ascension Thursday. The Secretary mentioned three possible scenarios for this situation which will only repeat itself in 2160. Reminding that the Labour Code, facing this exceptional situation, does not bring any answer, the Secretary uses a process of analogy. A provision in the Labour Code plans that, even if a person does not work on a national holiday, they are nonetheless entitled to one compensatory day off (L. 232-6 (1) al. 2).
