Following an incorrect enrolment declaration by the General Workers Union (GWU), the Maltese government wants to put more transparency into trade union statutes, especially when it comes to the number of memberships. Indeed, the Maltese daily newspaper “Times of Malta” recently revealed that the GWU, which claims to have 47 000 members, only has a little more than 19 000.
