From 2025, Spanish retail leader Mercadona (turnover 2023: €35.53 billion, up 15% year on year. 1,681 stores) is increasing the salaries of its 104,000 employees in order to increase their purchasing power. The 8.5% increase corresponds to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices for the countries in which the chain operates, namely Spain and Portugal.
