The Gender Equality Law, modified by the Regional Congress on 27 September 2019 now requires public policy within Mexico’s second wealthiest state to implement gender pay equality in a way that is ‘concrete, viable, and explicit.’
According to Article 37 of the Gender Equality Law, State authorities (Economic Development Ministry, Labor Ministry and Municipalities) will now have to ‘ensure equal pay between men and women for equal work and equal conditions.’ They will also have to fund ‘information and awareness campaigns’ geared to promoting pay equality ‘in the private sector’. Both the Labor Inspectorate and Nuevo León’s statistics services will be made aware of the gender pay inequality issue.
