Modern slavery along global supply chains: five key countries including the UK and the USA develop four key principles to eradicate this scourge

Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the US, and the UK belong to the group of nations that on 25 September presented a landmark practical set of provisions that other nations’ government can adopt in combatting modern slavery. The goal of the principles is that ultimately they can be used by nations to eliminate the scourge of human trafficking and modern slavery pervading global supply chains. The program also includes responsible recruitment practices as well as a willingness to encourage and support companies engaged in tackling modern slavery.

These four fundamental principles were developed after the UK Prime Minster Theresa May’s 2017United Nation General Assembly speech. To date 80 countries have signed up to Theresa May’s proposal but the UK, together with the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia are seeking to convince even more nations, by way of this united front and the publication of these four key principles, which they believe all countries should adopt.
