The company said this restructuring was caused by the necessity to improve “the competitiveness of the firm”. Moreover, the York plants, dating from the19th century, are considered unsuitable for technological evolutions. Nevertheless, the firm announced that it was going to invest 20 million pounds to improve the productiveness of the British plant. Nestlé, the world's largest food and drink company, announced, last September 20th, the shedding of 645 jobs in the York plant. Chocolates will now be produced in Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic. (Ref.06936)
