At the end of December 2008, the government postponed of two weeks companies' deadline to request the ATV (working time reduction plan, see our dispatch No. 081049). Unions and employers wanted it extended until April 31, 2009. On December 31, 2008, 164 businesses were allowed to use this system for a total of 260.217 work hours. (Ref. 090020)
Companies can ask the State for help until
January 15, 2009 to reduce their staff’s working time without appealing to
dismissals (see
our dispatch No. 081049). The unemployment insurance (WW) takes over for
6-24 weeks. Employers and unions, who wanted the deadline postponed until April
1, haven’t been heard. On December 31, 320 requests were sent to the Ministry
of Labor and Social Affairs. These requests have been accepted for 164 businesses, for a total of 260.217
