The center-left governmental coalition wants to give companies the possibility to be responsible for the maintained payment of their dismissed employees for the first six months of unemployment. This proposal will be subject to dialogue with the Social Partners but is already criticized by SMEs and SMIs. (Ref. 080734)
This proposal, introduced to Parliament by MP Eddy van Heijnum, from the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDA), is also supported by the Labor Party. Employers who would accept to take this risk would no longer contribute to the unemployment insurance of their new recruits for the first six months of work. However, they wouldn’t be allowed to return to the old system, even after a restructuring. The idea is to encourage employers to take all the possible prevention measures before dismissals.
