The representatives of 5 000 Heineken employees in the Netherlands are negotiating the introduction of "à la carte employment" in the next collective labour agreement, currently under negotiation. Their objective is to break the three shifts pattern, to allow each employee to decide his working hours himself, in order to have maximal flexibility. (Ref. 061164)
The advantage, from the employees’ perspective, is the possibility to take care of an ill family member, to go to football practice every Wednesday, or to have a more intense community life. “This plan, the first one of its kind in the Netherlands, is part of a “social resurgence” says Ton Wennekers, delegate of the Confederation of Dutch trade unions (FNV Bondgenoten).
