Ikea’s Dutch employees will get a 2 percent wage increase. Ikea was founded in Sweden but the headquarters are in Delft, Netherlands. The increase will come into force on October 1, 2012, at the same time as the next collective agreement. In addition, a bonus amounting to 1.5 percent of gross annual pay will be paid in February 2013. The FNV and Allies (FNV Bondgenoten) says Ikea is different because of its progressive policy – an exception in this sector because of the recession. Coming negotiations will be about the quality of labor relations between Ikea and its employees. Focus will be put on flexible working, employees having more freedom to choose their hours. Large groups like Philips are setting an example in the Netherlands, allowing their employees to deduct work done from a distance (at home or in public transit) from working time. Until September 30, 2013, working groups set up by Ikea Nederland and unions will work on clauses to add to the next collective agreement. The point would be for employees to choose their work week on an individual basis, after consulting with their manager.
