The requirement for companies to disclose data on employee commuting and business travel will come into force on 1 July 2024, having been postponed for a year. The obligation will apply to the 8,000 companies with more than 100 employees in the Netherlands, with the aim of encouraging them to develop sustainable mobility.
From 1 July 2024, employers in the Netherlands with more than 100 employees will have to record the amount of CO2 emitted by their employees’ journeys and declare this by 30 June of the following calendar year. As such, the first disclosures will be required by 30 June 2025. To do this, they will have to detail the total number of kilometres, the means of transport used and the type of fuel for all their staff, for home-to-work journeys and business trips.
