Decentralization on a social matter in Netherlands bears fruit. Since the managment of support income's allowance has been tranferred to towns in 2004, the number of beneficiaries has dropped of 3.24% within a year. (Ref. 06418)
According to the results of a Social Issues Ministry’s analysis, this situation can be explained by the reinforcement of beneficiaries’ controls by townhalls, but also because the town social services get more involved in the setting up of reinstatement measures for the unemployed. However, lone-parent families turn out to be the category where the beneficiaries’ number at least decreases. Overall, this chunk of the population represents 27% of the minimum income’s beneficiaries....
