On April 14 the Senate adopted a joint Christian Democrat and Greens draft law changing a piece of existing legislation recognizing the universal right to request changes in working time. The new law allows workers to request changes on how working time is spread out over time as well as choosing a worker’s regular place of work. Employers will be obliged to explain in a serious fashion any refusals.
The amendment to the working time regulation (Wet aanpassing arbeidsduur) recognizes the right for a worker with a minimum of 26 weeks employment in the business (versus one year previously) to request that employer (in businesses with fewer than 10 workers) alters his/her working time including how working time will be spread over the working week, as well as where the worker will perform his/her duties. The worker’s request must include two months notice before any changes can be implemented
