After one year, the unemployed will have to accept any job. This measure was adopted on July 1, immediately applicable, without a debate in Parliament and in spite of unions' opposition. The government wants to bring this period down to six months early in 2009. (Ref. 080594)
Until now, the rule was that jobless people had to consider, even if they didn’t take them, job offers that didn’t match their skills after six months of unemployment benefits. They didn’t risk loosing their allowance if they turned the offers down. Now, all the people who start receiving unemployment benefits after July 1, 2008 will have to find a new job in 12 months.
