Great Britain: the government is launching a consultation on temporary work

The government opened a consultation on the working conditions for temporary workers and other occasional employees, in order to improve their protection against unethical employers. This consultation comes at the same time as a union campaign in favor of a bill on the rights of temp workers (see our story n°070095). (Ref. 070172)

The government’s ambitions are very moderate. The consultation only aims at “addressing the bad practices that affect the most vulnerable agency workers, but without penalizing most of the reputable agencies”, and at “reducing the burden weighting on them, where we can do so, without removing important protection of workers”. The document’s introduction reminds the government’s commitment in favour of a flexible labour market, and of the 17,000 agencies’ key role for this pattern’s success. How
