Harry Koostra, CEO of TNT Post, the former public post, mentioned on TV yesterday the possibility of renegotiating the collective agreement and finding “creative solutions” to limit the number of redundancies planned by the end of 2012. Unions that called for the strike are asking TNT Post to reduce this number – currently 3,100 jobs – by taking firm commitments. “As long as TNT Post doesn’t come to the negotiating table with a decent offer, we’ll strike” declared Ilse van der Poel, negotiator for the civil servants’ union, Abvakabo, one of the country’s key unions with 350,000 members, affiliated with the Federation of Netherlands Unions (FNV).
