Last minute : today the UK government has said it will abolish the charging of employment tribunal fees and reimburse those that have paid them. The decision follows a ruling from the country's Supreme Court, which said that such fees – that claimants must pay when they lodge their complaint (introduced in 2013, see article n°7833) – are illegal. Further details on the ruling are yet to be revealed but, according to the country's justice minister, the decision does not call into question the existence of tribunal fees but finds that the right balance was not struck. Acording to Unison union, which brought the case to court, these refunds would amount to more than £27m.
