News update as of November 20, 2018

Spain/ Call to strike at Amazon’s logistics centers before key Black Friday shopping day. The UGT union has called for four-day strike action spanning 22-25 November across XPO’s logistics centers that manage orders for Amazon, Zara and Carrefour within the region surrounding Madrid. 3,500 staff are being called on to stop work on these key Black Friday business dates. This is in a bid to put real pressure on the company. For months, union representatives have been protesting both management’s refusal to enter into dialogue with them and its refusal to enter into collective bargaining negotiations. They have also been calling for working conditions at the company to align with those practised across other large companies in the region, and especially for the right to have two ten-minute breaks and twenty minute breaks during the working day, in order to lower workplace accident rates and avoid cases of chronic pain and inflammation linked to repetitive movements.
