In a bid to cope with a hiring crisis, discount supermarket chain Biedronka has announced it intends to hire more over-50s. To attract this cohort Biedronka is adapting its cashier positions to adapt to the physical and health constraints facing older workers.
Until now Biedronka has been a major manpower employer for the role of supermarket cashier and the job entailed both customer facing services as well as shelf stocking. When several older jobs candidates learnt of the shelf-stocking element they would desist for fear of not being up to the physical demands.
