According to the « Report of Activities 2005 » of the Labor Inspectorate, which has just been published, for the first time in Poland, the most numerous and the most serious labour law offences involve neither industrial accidents, nor failure to observe the working hours legislation, nor refusal of legal leaves, nor occupational diseases. The number one offence is now the nonpayment or delay of salaries. (Ref 061187)
This reality concerns 56 % of the firms checked. In Polish economic and social circles, this statistic has caused dismay. The official report is based on 94 000 checks conducted in 67 000 firms, employing 3.5 million employees. Says Mrs Bozena Borys-Szopa, Labour Inspector General : « In our country, the nonpayment of wages is becoming a pathology! ».
