Defending the sector. The Confederation of Construction and Real Estate (Confederação da Construção e do Imobiliário, CCI), gathers the sector’s employer organizations and trade associations. It aims to fill in the gap in the representation of an activity with an important economic weight. Indeed, it represents 18% of Portugal’s GDP, 49.7% of national investments and 800,000 jobs. The “construction and real estate” sector left the Portuguese Confederation of Industry (CIP) in 2007 after a disagreement with its President then, Francisco Van Zeller, who said that, in this sector, fraud was common practice. The sector was then represented by the FEPICOP, a construction federation.
