Numerous cuts. The Romanian government is preparing a major wave of restructurings within State companies with financial difficulties: this summer alone, nearly 7,000 jobs should be cut in energy businesses, the Romanian post and CFr, the railway company. Thus, on July 1st, the Communications Minister announced 2,000 job cuts at the post. By mid-September, 3,000 should also be cut at CFr ad 2,000 in State companies. Thus, several hundred jobs should be cut at the national highway company, as well as Termoelectrica and several large thermal power plants. In total, for all the State companies concerned (between 30 and 40, 18 of which being highly in debt and therefore have priority), job cuts could amount to 30,000 over several years, according to Mr. Costin, leader of the National Union Bloc.
