Take on responsibility. The leader of the BNS (National Union Bloc), Dumitru Costin, handed in his resignation last week, following unions’ failure to prevent the introduction of severity measures. He had been leader the union for nearly 20 years. In spite of several demonstrations and a general strike, the trade unions failed to influence the government’s policy, and the 25% pay cut in civil servants and 15% pension cut were maintained.
