Only 4% of employees in Russia telework, compared with 34% in the U.S. However, according to a study carried out by J’son & Partners Consulting and which appeared in 2015, by 2020 that number will have gone up to 20%. An example of this trend that is gathering pace is the telecommunications company Vimpelcom. This company employs 27,000 under the Beeline brand and by the end of 2017 it expects more than half of its staff will be teleworking. This is the first time a company has launched an initiative of this scale in the country.
Vimpelcom unveiled its work optimization plan for Russia. More than 800 workers at Beeline in Moscow and 1,500 across the country have already signed an appendix to their employment contracts that included the BeeFREE project. BeeFREE will be launched in a total of thirty-six towns in 2016. Office staff, sales staff, employees working with a great many documents, and technical experts requiring specific equipment will not be eligible for BeeFREE.
