The management of the French industrial group Safran (57.000 employees) and the special negotiating body signed, on July 4, 2007, an agreement for the establishment of a European works council in this group created in 2005 through the merger of the French undertakings Sagem and Snecma. The latter already had a European works council of its own. (Ref. 080601)
The management and the special negotiating body, composed of 9 French representatives (3 CFE-CGC, 2 CFDT, 2 CGT, 1 FO and 1 CFTC) and 10 representatives from other countries, reached an agreement after eight negotiation meetings, for the creation of a EWC. The EWC may have up to 30 members, 25 of them permanent (9 French, 2 British, 2 Belgian, 2 German and one for each of the remaining 10 Member States) and as many substitutes. It will meet once a year for a plenary session.
