Slovakia: a new system of vocational education and training

Since 01 April 2015, Slovakia has a new system of vocational education and training that is largely based on the model used in Germany for example. The new system targets the successful integration of specialized secondary school leavers into the workplace immediately after having graduating without further need for training. Allowing employers contribute to the education content should also ensure the system produces a well-trained and capable workforce.

The new vocational and education system is primarily based on ‘Dual Education’ comprising three components: contractual, where an employer enters into a contract with the vocational educational institution and into a contract with the student), practical work, where the student carries out work for the employer, and co-financing, where both the employer and the State contribute via pay and study grants respectively.
