Slovakia: key Labor Code reform in the offing

The bill takes account of the government’s program aiming to reduce unemployment and make the labor market more flexible, and of the notice by the European Commission for non-compliance of the Labor Code with Directive 1990/70/EC concerning the framework agreement of the ETUC, UNICE and CEEP on fixed-term work.  The National Assembly should adopt the amendment before the summer so it can come into force on September 1, 2011.  However, given the number of observations and suggestions presented during the interministerial consultation procedure, now over (about 600, 150 substantial), it is possible the adoption of the amendment will be postponed.
