The Public Finance Balance Act (PFBA) was subject to very intensive negotiations with public and also private sector trade unions that applied also additional protest measures (including strike). Its introduction was almost postponed as the police trade union – unsatisfied with the PFBA - announced to call a referendum. However, the Government managed to find an agreement with the police trade union enabling the PFBA to be published on 29 May 2012, i.e. only a day before its entrance into force. The PFBA introduces, inter alia, the following important amendments relevant for private sector employers:
