Slovenia: solutions and current movements to adjust working time because of the crisis

Different companies operating in Slovenia have recently stressed their concern because of actual or foreseen decrease of their business activity. The applicable Slovene law does not recognize the concept of “partial unemployment” or any other similar concept that would help Slovenian companies to pass through the current economic situation seeking compensation benefit from public social security funds. In addition to the possibility to introduce additional work free days or encourage employees to use the remaining part of the unused annual leave by the end of this calendar year. Under Slovenian law, companies may reduce working time and extend it on longer periods of time. However, any reduction of required work company shall not have any negative impact for the employees. This means that reduction of work may not bring any decrease of monthly payments the employees shall receive under their employment contracts. Some companies try to implement other available legal solutions that could decrease the extent of required work with simultaneous decrease of costs for payments to their employees.
