The global framework agreement between Solvay and IndustriAll places greater social demands on the chemical company, such as having more women in leadership roles by 2020, integrating the OECD’s guidelines on multinationals, or indeed stricter demands on contracts with suppliers as regards the respect of workers’ rights. Signed on 3 February by Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, chief executive officer of Solvay, and Valter Sanches, IndustriAll’s general secretary, the new framework agreement will have a prolonged timeframe of five years and places greater emphasis on the role of the chemical group’s forum for international social dialogue (Solvay Global Forum), which is now in charge of making sure the agreement is correctly applied.
Hailing the agreement, after it was singed on 3 February in Brussels, Solvay CEO Jean-Pierre Clamadieu said: “For Solvay, the five-year renewal is testimony of the relationship of trust we’ve successfully developed with IndustriALL for more than a decade now. We advocate an open, challenging and constructive dialogue with our employees and their representatives.
