In order to give all its employees “a sense of urgency”, the Samsung Group (more than 300,000 employees) announced on 17 April that the managers of several of its major electronics subsidiaries would immediately – from the following day – be encouraged to go back to working six days a week, as was still the case until 2004. Prompted by worse-than-expected financial results, South Korean electronics giant Samsung is asking executives at its subsidiaries to come and work on Saturdays or Sundays to "overcome" the crisis. Samsung is relying on "volunteers" to roll out its new work organisation.
