The agreement reached yesterday, November 17, puts an end to 13 days of strike in cleaning and gardening services in Madrid. It is considered as a victory by the trade unions, UGT (majority union in the sector) as well as CCOO and UGT, which rejected the conditions imposed by the companies that won the tenders to perform these services. They abandon the layoffs and pay cuts planned. In return, employees accept 45 days of short-time working and a pay freeze until 2017. (Ref. 130713)
Businesses were planning to cut staffing by 20 percent and pay by 40 percent. OHL, Ferrovial, FCC and Sacyr won, in August, a new tender issued by the town, and were sharing the city, divided into sectors, for full cleaning and gardening services including a 26 percent cut from the previous budget.
