On November 2, the Asime, Atra and Feca employers’ organizations and the two majority unions, UGT and CCOO (Workers’ Commissions), ratified the agreement, but the CIG nationalist Galician union rejected it. Valid for three years, it provides for a global wage increase 3.85 points above the CPI, divided in three: CPI + 1.10% the first year, CPI + 1.50% the second year and CPI + 1.25% the third year.
After eight months of tough negotiations, punctuated by strikes, employers and unions signed the new collective agreement for the metal sector in the Vigo region (Pontevedra, Galicia). The new text will govern, until 2011, the sector, which employs 27,000 people in the region, one of the key metalworking poles in Spain. (Ref. 091005)
