Following years of confrontation, Euskadi’s (Basque country) four main union bodies and the region’s employers’ body have come together to jointly draw up a cross-industry agreement that will set out the main thrusts of the industrial relations framework going forward for the region. The goal is to define a specific and appropriate forum for collective negotiations that will ring-fence agreements negotiated within the Basque region and signify their precedence over national agreements.
Restarting collective negotiations. On 30 November, the region’s majority nationalist unions, the ELA and LAB, along with the regional central federations, the CCOO and UGT, have replied to an invitation proffered by the Confebask employers’ body to come together and find a way to restart social dialogue and unlock collective negotiations at a time when several of Euskadi’s social agreements are currently deadlocked.
