The electrical goods manufacturer Braun, subsidiary of Procter & Gamble since 2005, has announced the gradual closure of its Esplugues Llobregat factory, outside Barcelona. The process should be completed in 2008, resulting in the loss of 690 permanent posts and another 80 temporary posts of workers who were regularly employed to meet the factory's requirements. The production of mixers and irons at the Catalan factory, Braun’s only production site in Spain, should be transferred to Eastern Europe and China. During a visit to the site last March, the chairman of the German multinational had warned that he preferred to close the factory rather than face potential losses.
