On 04 March 2016, management at supermarket chain Lidl together with the unions CCOO and UGT signed the first company wide collective agreement. In it is the highest minimum wage level for the sector as well as guarantees over job stability and improved work life balance. The agreement is being hailed as the best agreement ever in Spain’s retail and distribution sector.
The agreement will run for four years (2016 – 2019 inclusive) and affects almost 10,000 employees working in some 535 Lidl establishments across the country. It is the first such agreement for the company that had until now relied on ad hoc local agreements keeping within the framework of the retailing and distribution branch agreement.
