Half of the newly employed Spanish people earned less than the SMI (minimum wage) in 2005, according to the annual statistic report of the fiscal administration, published on 13 October. In 2005, half of the newly employed 1,039,106 persons in 2005 earned less than the SMI (minimum wage), which was 7182 euros last year (513 euros a month). And among them, 380,857 even earned less than half the SMI.
