Spain’s textile sector social discord is now resolved. On 19 February 2019, and following a four-month delay, CCOO-Industria will ratify the text that had been agreed on 03 September 2018 by the UGT-FICA union and the employers’ bodies, Fedecon, Texfor, and Unifam. With the CCOO signature the 2018-2020 collective convention become fully valid, having previously been limited in scope, since only employees who explicitly requested to be included in its scope could be. Following months of conflict, and with the collective convention seemingly en route to the tribunal authorities, agreement was found over how to bring workers up to the annual floor of €14,000.
Disagreement over how to calculate the salary floor threshold. During the initial negotiations the CCOO (textile industry major trade union) stepped away from its regular union partner the UGT and refused to ratify the draft collective convention in July 2018 (c.f. article No. 10771).
