Today, on 29 May, the Spanish government urgently approved a decree to create a guaranteed minimum income scheme that will come into force from June. The measure has been introduced to lighten the burden for 850,000 low-income households across the country and will consist of a monthly payment of at least €462 per month for an individual person. The sum can rise to as much as €1,015 per month for a family with two children.
Madrid is bolstering social protection amid the impact of Covid-19 on the country’s economy. Spain’s council of ministers approved the launch of the ‘minimum subsistence income’ (Ingreso Minimo Vital, IMV) to help the country’s most vulnerable households.
