According to the Ministry of Employment, partial retirements will increase by 50% this year, with 30 000 new departures. This sharp rise is linked to the coming overhaul of the particularly advantageous social security system, which should come into force in 2007. (Ref. 061049)
Since the creation, in 2001, of the possibility to retire gradually, more than 60 000 employees have chosen to do so. Until now, it allowed employees aged at least 60 to reduce their working time up to 85 %. The conditions of access to this system of partial retirement, considered too costly for the State, will be limited, according to an agreement on social security overhaul signed on July 13th between the government and social partners.
