Spain: new professional categories in the hotel industry make functional mobility easier

On November 26, union and employers’ organizations in the hotel industry signed the new chapter of the national sectoral agreement that supervises the working conditions of 1 million employees in the country, which will come into force on December 31, 2014.  The key novelty in the agreement is the introduction of a possibility of extraordinary functional mobility that can be activated for economic or organizational reasons and allow employees to perform several tasks within their own ‘sector.’  They can also be transferred to another sector that the one they were hired for in the first place.  This new flexible measure should help adjust staffing to the evolution of the company’s activity, thus avoiding layoffs.  It is an answer to a major claim from employers: make workers’ activity flexible to face seasonal changes in operations.  (Ref.  130760)
