The competitiveness plan includes increasing the amount of work as well as introducing a two-tier salary scale and in return the 130 redundancies demanded by management can be avoided. The UGT and USO unions negotiated the plan but the CCOO union remains fiercely opposed.
Workers at Nissan Avila have approved a pre-agreement signed by the UGT and USO unions as well as by management at the factory. It is a cost cutting plan to safeguard the site’s future. The vote on June 05 was carried by 57.29% for with 37.42% against. It comes after a long period of negotiation ever since management announced in October 2014 they had to cut production costs by 25% and raise competitiveness by 25%. It sought to cut 130 jobs and outsource the work of 80 other non-essential staff
