The Spanish government and social partners in the country have launched negotiations on new amendments to its labour code. A series of topics have been tabled, ranging from: the establishment of an individual compensation fund, in the event of a staff member being laid off; the working day ending at 6pm; compensation for workers on temporary contracts; and the right to ‘disconnect’ from digital tools.
Negotiations began shortly after Mariano Rajoy became prime minister for the second time, in November 2016. They have been conducted in parallel with those involving unions and employers, which seek to reach a framework agreement on recommendations for wage increases in 2017. These will serve as a reference point for wider collective, branch and regional negotiations.
