Spain: publication of the law on the independent worker status

The 20/2007 law, published in the Official Journal on July 12, will come into effect in three months. For the first time, it comprises the status of the 3.118.000 people who work alone. The text's elaboration was born from talks between the sector's different representation organizations. It answers the claims of an action group which demanded an adjustment of the social protection system to its needs and a definition of its rights (risk prevention, collective negotiation) and duties. It also creates an economically dependent independent worker status, about which we will publish a more detailed commentary soon. (Ref. 070629)
